Questions

What is a link preview?

When you paste a link into Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp or a messaging app, it turns into a card with a picture, a title and a description. The card is built from tags in the page called Open Graph (og:) and X card (twitter:) tags.

Why does my link show no picture, or the wrong one?

Usually the page has no og:image tag, the image address is wrong or private, or the platform cached an older version of the link. This checker shows what the page says right now, and what is missing.

What size should the share image be?

1200 by 630 pixels (a 1.91 to 1 shape) works well everywhere. Keep it under 1 MB as a PNG or JPEG. Smaller than 600 by 315 shows as a small thumbnail, and under 200 by 200 many platforms ignore it. Our free OG image generator makes one for you.

Why do the platforms still show the old preview after I fix my tags?

They keep a copy for days. Facebook has a Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn has a Post Inspector, where you can ask them to fetch the page again. For others, adding a small change to the link (a ?v=2 at the end) shows the new card straight away.

Are the previews exact?

They are close, not identical. Each platform decides its own design, crops and text lengths and changes them from time to time. The checks, such as a missing image or a very small one, are what matter most.

Is it free? Do you keep my link?

It is free, with no sign-up and a small limit on checks per minute. We fetch the page to read its tags and do not keep it or the result.
