Questions

What is the difference between a dofollow and a nofollow link?

A dofollow link is an ordinary link: search engines follow it and count it as a vote for the page it points to. A nofollow link has rel="nofollow" on it, which asks search engines not to pass that credit. "Dofollow" is not a real attribute: a link is dofollow simply when nothing tells search engines otherwise.

What do sponsored and ugc mean?

rel="sponsored" marks paid or affiliate links, and rel="ugc" marks links in user content such as comments and forum posts. Google treats both as hints, like nofollow, so they usually pass no ranking credit. This checker shows which of the three each link has.

How do I check that my backlink is dofollow?

Enter the address of the page that links to you, then type your domain in the box under the result. The checker lists every link to your site on that page and says whether any of them is dofollow. It also notices when the whole page is marked nofollow, which makes every link on it nofollow.

Why does my link show as nofollow when it has no rel attribute?

The page may tell search engines not to follow any of its links, with a robots meta tag (content="nofollow") or an X-Robots-Tag header. The checker reads both and says so at the top of the result.

Does it see links added by JavaScript?

No. It reads the page's HTML as the server sends it, as many crawlers do on their first visit. A link that only appears after scripts run is not in the list. Google renders pages later, so it may still see such a link.

Do nofollow links still help?

They can bring visitors, and a natural mix of followed and nofollowed links is normal for any site. For ranking, followed links from relevant, trusted sites count most.
